Tall Tales from the Internet: How FEHA Is Helping Kids Stay Safe Online

July 28, 2025

FEHA’s Tall Tales from the Internet is a free storybook that teaches kids online safety through fun, folktale-inspired stories. It makes privacy lessons simple, engaging, and memorable for the next generation.

Imagine this:

A young girl posts her breakfast selfie on social media, with her location turned on. Later, she checks in at her dance class. After school, she shares a group photo from her hangout spot. She ends the day with a goodnight post showing the street outside her house. By bedtime, total strangers now know her routine, favorite places, and even where she lives.

What started as innocent fun became a serious privacy risk.

The Digital World Isn’t Always Friendly

Today, kids grow up with phones in their hands and social media at their fingertips. While technology connects them to the world, it also exposes them to dangers, especially when they don’t understand the risks of oversharing personal information.

Unfortunately, data privacy is rarely discussed at home and almost never taught in schools. Most children don’t realize that simple posts can lead to real-world consequences.

That’s why FEHA stepped in.

Why FEHA Created This Book

FEHA helps businesses protect their data and meet global privacy standards. But we asked ourselves an important question, “Who’s helping kids understand online safety?”

We believe digital awareness should start early. But instead of giving kids a boring lecture, we wanted to make learning fun, relatable, and easy to understand.

So, we created Tall Tales from the Internet; a colorful storybook that teaches kids how to stay safe online.

A Storybook That Makes Privacy Fun

Tall Tales from the Internet is not your average textbook. It’s an illustrated storybook that uses fun, cautionary tales to teach two important lessons:

  1. Be careful what you share online
  1. Keep your passwords strong and secret

The book is available in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, so even more kids (and parents!) can join the adventure.

Inspired by Classic Folktales

To make it familiar and engaging, FEHA took inspiration from traditional stories like Malin Kundang and Batu Menangis, tales where the characters make bad choices and face the consequences.

In our book, the online world becomes the stage for modern cautionary tales. Because just like in the old stories, what you do today can impact you tomorrow.

Kids Loved It and That Matters Most

We tested the book with students aged 12–15 at a local school in Indonesia. The response? They loved it.

“The pictures are cool!”
“The stories are easy to follow!”
“Now I know why I shouldn’t post everything online!”
When learning feels like playing, kids remember it, and that’s exactly what FEHA hoped to achieve.

What FEHA Stands For

FEHA believes privacy should be simple, human, and accessible to everyone, even children. That’s why we go beyond just helping companies with cybersecurity; we want to build a world where everyone, young and old, understands how to stay safe online. Because the earlier we teach these lessons, the better prepared the next generation will be.

With FEHA, cybersecurity doesn’t have to be scary. It can start with a cute and interesting look, plus a useful fun story.
